The Community for Positive Aging (CfPA)—originally founded as the Hollywood Senior Center—is seeking a visionary, equity-driven Director of Programs to join our Executive Leadership Team. One of three senior leadership roles, this position will be instrumental in advancing CfPA’s mission to support older adults, especially those facing systemic barriers, through innovative and culturally responsive health, nutrition, and aging services.

As Director of Programs, you’ll lead the strategic direction, execution, and continuous improvement of our program portfolio, while managing and mentoring a dedicated team of program managers, caseworkers, outreach staff, contractors, and volunteers. You will ensure high performance, alignment with CfPA’s mission and values, and impactful service delivery particularly in food security, housing stability, and chronic disease prevention.

This role also includes a vital internal and external communications function ensuring clarity, alignment, and visibility across programs and stakeholders. Ideal for a bold, systems-minded leader with experience in public health, aging, or social services.

Salary: $90,000 annually
Location: Primary sites in NE and Downtown Portland (On-site, with occasional evening/weekend events; up to 10% remote after 90 days)

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Executive Leadership

  • Serve as a core member of the Executive Leadership Team, helping guide organizational culture, strategy, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Lead strategic planning and execution for all direct service programs, ensuring alignment with mission, equity goals, and community priorities.

  • Champion innovation across programming, refining service models to reflect community needs, systemic challenges, and data-informed practices.

Program Oversight & Innovation

  • Direct all program areas, including case management, health promotion, food access, and wellness services.

  • Ensure program excellence, consistency, and continuous quality improvement through staff development, standardization, and accountability.

  • Design and evolve culturally responsive models that address health disparities and reflect participant input.

Team Leadership & Performance Management

  • Supervise and support a multidisciplinary team of program managers and frontline staff.

  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance, and equity-centered culture across programs.

  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, professional development, and performance evaluation processes to build internal capacity and retain top talent.

Community Engagement, Partnerships & Advocacy

  • Represent CfPA in coalitions and cross-sector partnerships with housing, healthcare, and public health organizations.

  • Advance community voice and equity through engagement strategies that promote inclusive participation.

  • Drive local and statewide policy advocacy aligned with CfPA’s mission and community priorities.

Resource Development & Impact Reporting

  • Collaborate on fundraising, including grants and donor communications, by providing strategic input and program data.

  • Manage program budgets and ensure effective, equitable resource allocation.

  • Lead impact tracking and evaluation systems, providing insights to staff, board members, and external partners.

Program Communications & Visibility

  • Lead internal program communications to ensure team alignment, cross-department coordination, and clarity of roles and priorities.

  • Highlight program outcomes and stories for external audiences, including funders, partners, and the media.

  • Support messaging and content for newsletters, reports, and social media to elevate CfPA’s voice and mission in the community.

  • Proven track record of leading aging, public health, or community-based programs through an equity and systems-change lens.

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong relationship-builder with community members, stakeholders, and cross-sector partners.

  • Highly organized, transparent, and accountable with a collaborative leadership style.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (Master’s preferred).

  • 3–5+ years of senior-level program leadership experience in community health, aging, or related sectors.

  • Demonstrated success in staff management, equity-centered program design, and data-informed decision-making.

  • Experience with grant development, budget oversight, and cross-sector collaboration.

  • Understanding of aging issues, food justice, housing stability, and health disparities.

Work Location & Schedule
