What if the most powerful stories didn't require a ticket, a streaming subscription, or even leaving your neighborhood? What if they came to you—in your community center, your faith space, the long-term care facility where you or your loved ones call home?
That's exactly what we're building.
Preservation Pictures isn't just a documentary—it's proof of what's possible when we tear down the walls that keep generations apart.
The Film
Filmed over eight weeks at Buckman Elementary in Portland, Oregon, the film follows an extraordinary after-school program where wise elders and curious kids came together to do something radical: listen and tell stories to each other. Through shared storytelling and collaborative filmmaking, students and seniors created original documentary shorts that preserve memories, build bridges, and prove that the magic of connection transcends age.
At a time when communities feel increasingly divided—online and off—Preservation Pictures crosses generational, digital, and cultural divides. It shows us what happens when some of the youngest and oldest voices in a community create together. Spoiler: it's beautiful.

The Vision
In partnership with Gal Pal Films, we're taking this film on the road—for free. We're bringing Preservation Pictures directly into the spaces where our community and elders already gather: community centers, faith-based organizations, and long-term care facilities. Places where access matters. Where representation matters. Where seeing yourself on screen can change everything.
We're also supporting the expansion of the intergenerational after-school program that inspired the film—giving young people the tools to tell their own stories while learning from elders who have lived them.
Why This Matters
At The Community For Positive Aging, we believe that connection across generations isn't just nice to have—it's essential. When elders are isolated and youth are siloed, entire communities lose the wisdom, joy, and creativity that comes from these relationships.
For too long, media has been something that happens to communities, not with them. Access has been a privilege, not a right. Together with Gal Pal Films, we're changing that.
This tour isn't just about screenings…it's about sparking conversations, creating connections, and proving that everyone regardless of age or circumstance deserves to see themselves reflected in the stories we tell.
