Transportation Program Volunteers

Support CfPA’s exciting new Transportation Program! Our fleet of three electric vehicles allow us to deliver hundreds of pounds of food to older adults and low-income neighbors, take seniors on enriching field trips, and transport participants/residents to important appointments.

Volunteers can get involved in three different ways:

Driver

Help us fill this critical role to safely transport older adults on grocery trips, field trips, and more! Drivers may also transport food boxes to low-income resident buildings.

DUTIES & ACTIVITIES:

  • Drive any one of our three electric vehicles - an SUV, a cargo van, passenger van to transport older adults or food.

  • Assist participants as they get in and out of vehicles.

  • Maintain a calm, kind, compassionate demeanor with participants.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Must have a valid, current state-issued drivers license

  • Comfort driving large vehicles, with or without passengers

  • Friendly, outgoing demeanor and excellent customer service skills

  • Commitment to the Community for Positive Aging’s mission and values, including promoting diversity, equality, and inclusion 

TIME COMMITMENT:

Depending on operational needs, drivers can expect to be scheduled for a shift/trip 2-3 times per month. Trips may last between 2-5 hours.

LOCATION:

Location is variable, but most trips will start at or near the Hollywood Senior Center (1820 NE 40th Ave)

Field Trip Ambassador

Support exciting field trip programming for older adults in CfPA’s electric passenger van!

DUTIES & ACTIVITIES: 

  • Assist participants as they get on and off the van, helping everyone feel comfortable and supported throughout the outing.

  • Assist CfPA staff to secure mobility devices in the passenger van.

  • Ensure the trip group stays together, safe, and accounted for.

  • Contribute to a fun and welcoming experience.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS: 

  • Individuals who are dependable, attentive, and feel confident stepping in to assist staff if unexpected situations arise.

  • Friendly, outgoing demeanor and excellent customer service skills

  • Commitment to the Community for Positive Aging’s mission and values, including promoting diversity, equality, and inclusion 

TIME COMMITMENT: 

Field trips will be scheduled monthly. Volunteers should expect a 4-5 hour shift each month. 

LOCATION: 

Field trips will leave from the Hollywood Senior Center, (1820 NE 40th Ave) taking participants around Portland and surrounding areas.

Lead Transportation Volunteer

Support the development and roll out of our new Transportation Program utilizing our fleet of three electric vehicles (one SUV, 1 cargo van and 1 passenger van)

DUTIES & ACTIVITIES: 

  • Create and maintain the systems for ensuring vehicle, driver and passenger safety.

  • Develop a booking and scheduling system to ensure the vehicles are having a positive impact for our community.

  • Help develop an onboarding process for new volunteer drivers (external training provided by our partners at Ride Connection)

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS: 

  • Interest in operations and systems

  • Confidence using Google Suite programs (Gmail, Google Sheets etc)

  • Friendly, outgoing demeanor and excellent customer service skills

  • Commitment to the Community for Positive Aging’s mission and values, including promoting diversity, equality, and inclusion 

TIME COMMITMENT:

Minimum of 2 hours a week (may be spread over the week) but the opportunity to grow to around 8+ hours a week if the successful candidate wants to a. Drive vehicles and/or b. Expand the reach of the program

LOCATION:

Desk-based work can take place at home or at a desk at our main office (1820 NE 40th Avenue, 97212). Vehicles are located either 2 blocks away from the main office (Northeast Community Center) or at a charging point at Leaven Community Center (5431 NE 20th Ave, 97211).
