Community for Positive Aging (CfPA)

Community for Positive Aging (CfPA), founded in 1973 as the Hollywood Senior Center, is a trusted Portland organization supporting older adults and adults with disabilities to live with dignity, connection, and purpose.

Today, we are building on more than five decades of service as we evolve into a Resilience Hub for older adults, strengthening how our community responds to food insecurity, health access, climate emergencies, and social isolation.

We are seeking board members who can help guide this next chapter with strategic leadership, expertise, relationships, and a deep commitment to aging and equity.

Our Evolution

CfPA has been a trusted community hub serving older adults in Portland since 1973, evolving over more than 50 years from a traditional senior center into a dynamic, equity-focused organization.

Over time, we have expanded in response to changing community needs, including:

  • A growing and increasingly diverse older adult population

  • Increased demand among low-income and historically underserved communities

  • Rising needs related to food security, social connection, health navigation, and emergency preparedness

In response, CfPA is evolving into a Resilience Hub for older adults, which:

  • Integrates social services, health support, and emergency response more intentionally

  • Strengthens our ability to support both daily needs and community-wide disruptions

  • Builds on our role as a trusted community anchor while expanding systems-level impact

To support this next phase, we are strengthening our Board of Directors with expertise in:

  • Fundraising, philanthropy, and donor engagement

  • Organizational systems, finance, and infrastructure

  • Cross-sector partnerships and community collaboration

  • Strategic communications and storytelling
