What Makes a Home?

A home is a place where you feel welcome, know your neighbors, have opportunities to connect, and feel that you belong.

At Community for Positive Aging (CfPA), we believe that connection and community are an important part of aging well. We’re looking for a Resident Services Coordinator who shares that belief and wants to help make Alder House Apartments a place where residents feel welcomed, supported, and connected.

The Resident Services Coordinator (RSC) supports residents’ quality of life, housing stability, and independence by creating opportunities for connection, coordinating engaging programs, and helping residents access services and resources. This role goes beyond planning activities. It’s about building relationships, listening to residents, responding to their interests, and helping create a community where people feel seen and valued.

The RSC also connects residents with CfPA’s broader network of programs, support services, and community partnerships, helping make resources and opportunities more accessible. The position primarily supports residents who are not receiving services through CfPA’s Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) program and works in coordination with property management, the PSH team, and community partners. The RSC does not provide direct case management or perform property management duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Resident Engagement and Community Building

  • Welcome new residents and help orient them to Alder House, available services, and community resources.

  • Build trusting relationships with residents through regular, approachable, and respectful engagement.

  • Support the social, emotional, and practical well-being of residents, with a focus on reducing isolation and strengthening community connections.

  • Plan and facilitate a minimum of six resident events or activities per month.

  • Develop and coordinate activities across a range of interests, including arts and culture, learning, health and wellness, food, recreation, and community connection.

  • Invite resident input into program planning and use feedback to shape activities, events, and opportunities for engagement.

  • Create opportunities for residents to share their interests, skills, cultures, and experiences and to take an active role in community life.

  • Encourage participation in activities and identify ways to make programs accessible and welcoming to residents with different interests, abilities, and backgrounds.

  • Coordinate special events and identify opportunities to involve volunteers and community partners.

Resource Navigation and Resident Support

  • Provide drop-in information and referrals to help residents connect with appropriate community services and resources.

  • Help residents navigate CfPA’s broader programs and services, including opportunities related to food access, health and wellness, education, and community engagement.

  • Connect residents with community-based organizations and service providers based on their interests and identified needs.

  • Respond to resident questions and concerns within the scope of the RSC role and connect residents with the appropriate staff or service provider when additional support is needed.

  • Coordinate questions or concerns related to lease requirements and property operations with property management.

  • Recognize when a resident may need support beyond the RSC role and make appropriate referrals, while maintaining clear professional boundaries and respecting resident choice and confidentiality.

  • Work collaboratively with the PSH team and other service providers when coordination is needed to support residents, while maintaining the distinction between resident services, case management, and property management.

Programs, Partnerships, and Organizational Collaboration

  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners who can contribute to resident programming, services, and engagement.

  • Coordinate with community organizations and volunteers to bring activities, resources, and learning opportunities to Alder House.

  • Prepare and distribute a monthly activity calendar and resident newsletter.

  • Collaborate with CfPA staff across programs and departments to identify relevant services, shared opportunities, and resources that may benefit Alder House residents.

  • Participate in CfPA-wide activities, outreach, and events as appropriate, helping residents connect with the organization beyond Alder House.

  • Represent CfPA in a welcoming and professional manner when working with residents, volunteers, service providers, and community partners.

Communication, Coordination, and Data

  • Collect and maintain attendance records and other program data to track participation and outcomes.

  • Gather resident feedback through surveys, conversations, and other appropriate methods.

  • Use resident input and participation data to assess activities and inform future programming.

  • Participate in biweekly meetings with property management and the PSH provider to coordinate services, address community concerns, and support housing stability.

  • Communicate relevant resident concerns and emerging needs to the appropriate staff or partners, consistent with confidentiality requirements and role boundaries.

  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation and protect resident privacy in accordance with CfPA policies and applicable requirements.

  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with residents and colleagues, including when responding to concerns, setting boundaries, or coordinating next steps.

Food Access and Basic Needs

  • Coordinate food security activities and food pantry distribution at Alder House.

  • Help residents access available food resources and related community programs.

  • Work with CfPA’s food access programs and community partners to support consistent, welcoming, and accessible food distribution.

  • Identify recurring barriers to food access and share observations with the appropriate CfPA staff to help strengthen services.

Qualifications

  • Experience in resident services, community engagement, social services, community programming, or a related field.

  • Strong relationship-building, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to engage respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

  • Experience coordinating events, activities, volunteers, or community partnerships.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with colleagues and external partners.

  • A person-centered approach that respects residents’ autonomy, lived experience, strengths, and right to make their own choices.

  • Creativity and initiative in developing activities and opportunities that respond to resident interests and strengthen community connection.

  • Ability to recognize the limits of the role, maintain professional boundaries, and connect residents with appropriate resources when needs exceed the position’s scope.
